International Graduate Academy on topics related to the European Green Deal
As part of the InterGrad-EGD project, PhD students at universities of applied sciences (HAWs) in Saxony-Anhalt receive funding and are supported through academic exchanges with European universities. The project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
The European Green Deal (EGD) was chosen as the overarching research theme for InterGrad-EGD, as all participating doctoral centres are already conducting innovative research within the framework of this important European strategy, in line with their academic profiles. The research supported by InterGrad-EGD as part of doctoral theses is intended to sharpen and expand this profile. This project not only strengthens the network of universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt but also promotes their integration into the European academic community.
A total of 24 PhDs are being funded at the universities of Anhalt, Harz, Magdeburg-Stendal and Merseburg, with supervision provided in academic collaboration with European universities. An overarching aim is to expand cooperation across the diverse range of topics covered by the European Green Deal.

Supporting programme
All member universities organise a joint support programme for PhD students. A range of professional development opportunities, yearly common meeting – “InterGrad Campus” – and field trips are tailored to students’ needs and also facilitate interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary exchange, as well as providing regular networking opportunities.
